Music has always been a big part of the Fines Creek Community. The FCCA (Fines Creek Community Association) sponsors the annual Bluegrass Jam to support scholarships for local students. The last weekend of August has been the date for the first fourteen Bluegrass Jams. The 15th was held Aug. 24 & 25, 2012, as an outdoor music festival on the campus of the old Fines Creek School. Along with a variety of Bluegrass Bands were several clogging teams including the youth group, The Fines Creek Flatfooters. This was a family friendly event. The Junior Appalachian Musicians Jamboree took place in the gym on May 19, 2012. This program by the Haywood Arts Council provides middle school students the opportunity to learn to play the traditional mountain music. The arts are blooming in the gym. Artist in Residence, Susan Livengood, has her art studio in one of the upstairs classrooms. Another classroom is now an alternative art space display area. Heritage programming is in the works. In the old school there is a classroom that has been preserved. We want donations of photos or histories of Fines Creek. The FCCA has installed a quilt square on the gym and become part of the WNC Quilt Trail. The square depicts “The Dead Man in the Creek.” See the history tab for the story of how Fines Creek got its name. If you are interested in further information or studio space rental, please contact Susan Livengood at 828-627-1912 or email at Susan10@SusanLivengood.com
